DescriptionA set of three black-and-white photographs of Casey Stengel's head and shoulders in 1948 and 1949. In the picture on the left Stengel is wearing a suit and winking his right eye as he looks into the camera. In the middle picture Stengel is holding his left hand to his open mouth in a yelling motion. In the picture on the right Stengel is looking down into an unseen glowing baseball. The caption on the back (not shown) reads, "NEW YORK: in 1948 Casey Stengel (Left) gave this portentous wink after signing up to manage the New York Yankees. In the spring of 1949, He was calling for more action from his players (center) even as he was wondering what the season would hold for his team (right). And, as of October 1, that last expression is still the order of the day. 10/1/1949 (PS)"
