DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Honus Wagner captured with his eye on the ball, mid-swing, as the ball is coming right at him. Wagner is dressed in the Pittsburgh Pirates home uniform. An unidentified stadium is in the background. The caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Wagner Spry at 72 Sturdy old Honus Wagner, who became a baseball immortal by leading the National League in batting eight years between 1900 and 1911, swings the hickery at the San Bernardino, Calif., spring training camp of the Pittsburgh Pirates, with whom he is a coach. Wagner celebrates his 72nd birthday February 25 and says he is raring to go on the 1946 season. 2/24/46." Based on the caption, this photograph was taken on February 24, 1946.
