DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Honus Wagner flipping through a large book, while holding a cigar in his left hand. Wagner is looking up while smiling. The caption (not shown) on the back of the photograph states, "Honus Wagner, considered by most of the experts to have been the greatest shortstop ever to cavort on a diamond, relaxes in his Pittsburgh home with a good cigar and his scrapbook of memories. Wagner, who began his baseball career in 1895, will be 77 years young on Feb. 24. He's been a coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates for the last 19 years but this year, due to declining health, the all-time great will not make the spring training with the bucs. 2/18/51." Based on the caption and his time as a coach for the Pirates, this photograph was taken on February 18, 1951.
