BiographyDel Wilber played for the St. Louis Cardinals (1946-1949), Philadelphia Phillies (1951-1952), and the Boston Red Sox (1952-1954) as a catcher and pinch hitter. After his playing career, Wilber managed in the minor leagues and served as a coach for the Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators, and the Texas Rangers. He then managed the Texas Rangers to a victory as a one-game major league manager following the firing of Whitey Herzog and before Billy Martin took over the job the next day.
