DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured smiling in front of his birthday cake as he celebrates his 89th birthday. Mack is dressed in the Philadelphia Athletics uniform. He is holding up a small sized bat. Written on the front side of the cake states, " 89 Congratulations Connie Mack." A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "'Mr. Baseball is Eighty-Nine Connie Mack, in baseball for 66 years of his lifetime, celebrated his 89th birthday in a press-radio party at Shibe Park, Philadelphia, PA., Dec. 22. Mack, who managed the Philadelphia Athletics for 50 years before retiring at the end of the 1950 season, is president of the A's. He holds a miniature bat in back of a 25-pound cake.12/24/51." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on December 22, 1951. This image exists in a similar form as BL-1507-68.
