Connie Mack and Bob Quinn with Painting photograph, approximately 1951

Dateapproximately 1951
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack, right, and Bob Quinn holding a framed painting between them. The painting features a portrait of Mack giving advice to a young baseball player. In the background is a display class that is filled with baseballs. The caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Cooperstown, New York -- An original painting immortalizing Connie Mack, 'Grand Old Man' of baseball, was presented today to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum by Mr. Mack, who accompanied the Philadelphia Athletics here for their annual game. The work of William Medcalf, widely known calendar artist, the painting shows the beloved baseball veteran demonstrating some fine points of the game to a youngster togged out in a baseball suit. Brown and Bigelow, leading publishers of calendars, will reproduce the painting in the 1952 edition of their popular Baseball Hall of Fame series. Previous editions of Baseball Hall of Fame calendar included reproductions of the late Babe Ruth and the late Lou Gehrig. Picture shows Mr. Mack, right, presenting calendar painting to Bob Quinn, of the Hall of Fame and Museum." This photograph was taken in approximately 1951. Quinn was the director of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum from 1948 to 1952.
