DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured in profile standing next to a life-sized portrait of himself. In the painting Mack is looking straight ahead with a smile and has his arms crossed. It depicts Mack from the waist up, wearing a suit. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "'Grand Old Man' Feted At Birthday Dinner Philadelphia, PA.-Connie Mack, who has guided the destiny of the Philadelphia Athletics since 1901, looks at an oil painting of himself by Maurice Molarsky. Some 800 baseball lovers honored the 'Grand Old Man of Baseball' tonight at a dinner in the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel belatedly honoring his 80th birthday.2/5/43." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on February 5, 1943.
