DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack, center, captured as he cuts a cake honoring his 50 years in baseball. Mack has a serious expression on his face and is holding the knife in his right hand. To the left of Mack is Lefty Grove who is looking down, speaking to an unidentified gentleman in a chair. To the right of Mack is Walter Johnson who is smoking a cigar. All of the gentlemen are dressed in suits. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Mack Cuts Anniversary Cake Connie Mack (center) cuts the cake commemorating his golden anniversary in baseball during a testimonial dinner attended by baseball immortals in Philadelphia. Looking on (rear, left-right) are Lefty Groves and Walter Johnson.8/4/44" Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on August 4, 1944.
