Letter from Alexander Cleland to William Beattie
Date1939 March 29
DescriptionA typed letter from Alexander Cleland to William "Bill" Beattie, National Baseball Museum curator, March 29, 1939. This is a copy of the original kept by Cleland. The top of the letter has descriptions of two letters he has enclosed. One is from Ford Frick re: formation of a Hot Stove League in Cooperstown. The second is from a high school student, Roger K. Ackerman, Hudson, NY, requesting material and information re: 100 years of baseball. Below these two descriptions is the date and to the left is the recipient's name and address "Cooperstown, N.Y.". Cleland writes to Beattie and tells him he is the best one to handle these requests and tells him he might get in touch with Jack Corbett regarding the Hot Stove League. The third paragraph, Cleland tells him that he read Les Bursey's letter about the Otsego County Musical Festival. Bursey suggested Miss Geraldine Farrar to sing a solo and Cleland asked if it would be an indoor or outdoor concert so he can advise her before she accepts. Cleland closes the letter by saying he "has taken things easy for a day or two but hope to be back on the job tomorrow." This copy is not signed and the verso (not shown) is blank.
