Lefty Grove composite photograph

Date1941 July 25
DescriptionA black-and-white composite photograph of Lefty Grove, of the Boston Red Sox, captured in action during his 300th win. In the top left corner photograph, Grove is captured with both his arms extended above his head as he prepares for the wind up of a pitch. Grove is looking over his right shoulder. In the photograph on the top right corner, Grove is captured as he returns to a standing position after releasing a pitch with a small smile on his face. In the bottom photograph, Grove is captured after releasing his final pitch that lead him to his 300th win. He is bent down and leaning forward with a look of determination on his face. Grove is dressed in a Boston Red Sox home uniform. Fenway Park is visible in the background and numerous fans are visible in the stands. A newspaper caption affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Robert 'Lefty' Grove, Boston Red Sox veteran pitcher, won his 300th mound victory July 25 and his right to inclusion with the game's immortals. He beat Cleveland at Boston 10-6. The great hurler is pictured, at top left, looking over his batter. At bottom, he finishes the delivery that won him fame. At upper right, he straightens up to view the result." Based on the caption, these photographs were taken on July 25, 1941.
