Willie Keeler Base-Running trophy pitcher

DescriptionSterling silver trophy pitcher with a rounded body, handle and spout. Body features an engraved floral design surrounding "William H. Keeler / 1st Prize / Base Running / Baltimore Field Day / October 14th 1895" in engraved lettering on the body in line with the spout. The neck of the pitcher features a double-banded design depicting raised flower arrangements and herons. Base has "Quadruple Plate" stamped in the center along with an illegible manufacturer stamp.
Bio/Historical NoteFollowing the 1895 postseason, the old National League Baltimore Orioles hosted a "field day" at their ballpark, where ballplayers competed for a variety of prizes. Wee Willie Keeler sped around the bases in 15 seconds to win the base-running contest and earn this engraved pitcher.
