Date1924 November 01
DescriptionPortrait of group posed in front of the set for the silent film "Thief of Bagdad" (1924). Ruth and Johnson were on a barnstorming tour of the West Coast, and played against each other in an exhibition game in Brea, California on the previous day. The two players toured the United Artists studios in Hollywood, California on November 1st. Fairbanks, studio founder and producer and star of "Thief of Bagdad," entered into the spirit of the occasion by donning a catcher's uniform. The group from left to right includes: Arthur S. Wenzel, press agent (kneeling); Jeff Lazarus, producer for Paramount Pictures; pitcher Walter Johnson (in street clothes); unidentified (partially obscured by Johnson); Christy Walsh, agent and public relations manager for Ruth and Johnson; unidentified, possibly a trainer for Fairbanks; Douglas Fairbanks; Oscar Reichow, business manager for the Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League; Babe Ruth wearing a New York Yankees pinstriped uniform lettered "New York;" Albert Kaufman, executive for Paramount Pictures; and unidentified, possibly another trainer for Fairbanks (kneeling).
