The caption on the right side of the photograph (not shown) reads, "Philadelphia, April 17 - Connie Mack 'just a fan' at A's opener. Connie Mack, center, holding scorecard, sits in the stands tonight as the Philadelphia Athletics opened their season against the Washington Senators to mark the first time in 50 years that he wasn't on the bench with the team. Mack stepped out as team manager and although still club President said he was 'just a fan' from now on. The team which Mack founded in 1901 now is managed by Jimmy Dykes." Based on the caption on the photograph, this was taken on April 17, 1951.
