DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Ban Johnson standing in a crowd of men. Johnson, wearing a suit, tie, vest, and overcoat, is distinguishable from the group of similarly dressed men by his pocket watch, glasses, and derby hat. Johnson, shown from the waist up, stands in the foreground of the group. Johnson, facing forward, looks down at a point below the camera. To his left, in profile, stands John K. Tener, President of the National League from 1913-1918. In comparison with similar images of the same period, and the featured architecture in the background, this photo was most probably taken in Cincinnati in conjunction with a National Commission meeting. Seen throughout the photograph, the black lines drawn directly onto the surface are not original and exist as a system of notation of where this image is to be cropped upon publication. The date range that Tener served as President of National League, and therefore was a member of the National Commission, have been used to date the photo.
