Red Barber microphone

Datecirca 1932
DescriptionCircular carbon microphone attached to a shallow round stand. The stand is weighted and the bottom is attached with screws and covered in a felt cover. There is a hole on the side of the stand where the electric cord was attached. The back clip plate is missing, exposing the interior workings of the microphone. The sides of the circular case are covered with evenly spaced holes, also covered with a fine black screen. The transmitter element in the interior is suspended by steel springs attached to metal eye hooks that are riveted to the housing and the element. There is a metal call letter plate with the letters "WRUF" framed by a rounded edge plaque. There are two threaded holes on the interior bottom curve of the plaque where it was probably attached to a bracket that was part of the microphone stand.
