DescriptionA typed letter dated July 5, 1949 from Wendell Smith to Branch Rickey on the decline of the Negro leagues. Smith encourages Rickey to subsidize or fund a Negro league team. He mentions that the Cleveland Indians have already done this, and their team, the Harlem Globetrotters, tour the Northwest. He mentions that they have successfully recruited young players and made money.
