He is in mid-swing with his front (left) leg straight and his back (right) leg bent at the knee. His upper body is rotating towards the pitcher's mound and he is looking over his front (left) shoulder down at the path of the baseball. With both hands he is holding a baseball bat that is extended over home plate. In the background is the photo well and a half full crowd in the stands. The photograph is taken from the first base side of the field.
