Pete Frates Ice Bucket award

DescriptionSilver trophy in the shape of an ice bucket with two small handles, one on either side of the top portion. Base is slightly tiered with an engraved repeated leaf design. This same design is replicated around the top outer edge. Front of the ice bucket has "Pete Frates / Not Since The Legendary Lou Gehrig / Has Anyone Inspired A Nation To Take / Up The Fight Against ALS As You Have. / Major League Baseball Extends Its / Deepest Gratitude For All You Have Done / To Bring Awareness To This Important Cause." in engraved lettering with an MLB logo beneath and a facsimile signature of Bud Selig. There is a manufacturer stamp on the bottom of the base.
Bio/Historical NoteTrophy ice bucket presented to the family of Pete Frates by Bud Selig on October 22, 2014 before Game 2 of the 2014 World Series. The game was dedicated to ALS education and awareness. Frates was unable to travel and asked MLB if his family could go in his place. Frates, a former Boston College baseball captain, had been battling ALS since 2012 and helped popularize the "Ice Bucket Challenge" phenomenon.
