Governor's Cup trophy

DescriptionSterling silver chalice trophy with two handles on either side atop a silver pedestal flanked by four upright baseball bats and four silver figures in various positions. Trophy has a large lid that lifts off, featuring a figure in a fielding stance atop a large baseball. Front of the trophy has "International League / Awarded To Club Winning / Annual Play-Off Series" in engraved lettering. Trophy is mounted on a black metal tiered base that is covered in 73 total shield-shaped placards that have team names and years in engraved lettering. Main front placard has "Governor's [Governors'] Cup / Sponsored By / The Governors of New York / New Jersey and Maryland / United States / And / The Lieutenant Governors / Of The Provinces Of / Ontario and Quebec / Canada" in engraved lettering.

Bio/Historical NoteIn 1935, the International League commissioned the Governors' Cup for the league's recently created postseason championship series. The winner received this particular trophy until 1988, when it was retired and a new one was created.
