DescriptionSmall silver cup trophy with two handles on either side and a short stem attached to a tiered base. Front has engraved lettering, "Presented to / Captain E.T. Collins / by the / Columbia University / Base Ball Team, / in appreciation of his services during the / Southern trip / April 2nd, 1907."

Bio/Historical NoteSilver cup trophy given to Columbia University shortstop and team captain E.J. "Eddie" Collins on April 2, 1907 by his teammates on the Columbia College baseball team. On March 26, 1907, Collins had been ruled ineligible because he had previously played semi pro baseball. Though he could no longer play for Columbia, Collins retained the title of "Captain" and acted as an undergraduate coach. After accompanying the club on its Spring road trip to southern colleges, his teammates gave him this silver cup.
