DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Mel Ott taking batting practice in a New York Giants home uniform in 1937. Ott has already begun his swing with his right foot lifted off the ground and his bat held in a ready position. Ott looks out towards the pitching mound. Part of a netting system is visible to the right of Ott. An unidentified object is visible behind the netting. Empty seats are visible in the background. As Ott is wearing a home uniform, the stadium in the background is most likely the Polo Grounds. The date of the photograph was provided by a date on the reverse; this date was verified by examining the record of Ott's career and the details of the uniform present in the photograph.
