Nellie Fox, Hank Bauer, and Chico Carrasquel photograph

Dateprobably 1955
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Hank Bauer, Nellie Fox and Chico Carrasquel. Bauer is captured looking up at the ball that is mid air and stopping his run. Bauer knocked over second baseman, Fox, as Fox tagged him out. Fox is captured on the ground with his feet up and his arms out. He had thrown the ball to first in an attempt to get another runner out. Carrasquel is captured standing directly behind second base backing up Fox. Bauer is dressed in a New York Yankees home uniform, whereas Fox and Carrasquel are dressed in Chicago White Sox road uniforms. The caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Yesterday's great debate at Yankee Stadium developed when White Sox second baseman Nellie Fox was bowled over by Hank Bauer, of Yanks, as he made tag and tried to throw to first to get Andy Carey, who grounded to him. Interference rule put Bauer out, Carey safe at first, and runners who were on second and third returned to bases. Chico Carrasquel is backing up play." Based on Fox, Bauer and Carrasquel's uniforms and their time with their respective teams, this photograph was probably taken in 1955.
