Willie Keeler Batting photograph

Date1903
DescriptionA sepia-toned action photograph of Willie Keeler posed batting. Shown in profile, Keeler wears a New York Highlanders home uniform. Standing with feet apart, Keeler holds the bat above his back left shoulder. He looks over his front right shoulder. A glove can be seen in the pocket of his uniform pants. Captured on the field, a grandstand is visible in the background. In the lower right corner, handwritten on the surface of the photograph is the word, "KEELER." Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Keeler, this image was captured in 1903, the sole year the Highlanders wore colored collars and solid-color socks. Stamped on the reverse (not shown), in purple ink, is the phrase, "LAST TIME USED MAY 16 1938 EDITION 2." Pasted on the reverse (not shown), is a newspaper clipping of the title, "'Wee Willie Keeler, Who "Hit 'Em Where They Ain't," Goes Out."'An additional copy of this photograph, with modifications made for publication, exists.
