Mel Ott with Soldiers photograph

Date1944
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Mel Ott captured signing an autograph for soldiers. Ott is holding a writing utensil in his right hand and is looking at the soldier who is standing across from him. The unidentified soldier standing across from Ott has a large grin on his face. Two other soldiers look on in the background. A newspaper clipping is attached to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "A glittering collection of baseball stars, both players and managers of American teams are bringing a bit of 'back home' to G.I. Joes serving on the German front. Here, Mel Ott (right) manager of a New York Giants, autographs a baseball for a grinning yank. 12/26/1944." Based on the newspaper clipping, this photograph was taken in 1944.
