Roger Maris and Claire Ruth photograph

Date1961 September 26
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Claire Ruth and Roger Maris. The caption (not shown) reads "New York Yankee outfielder Roger Maris plants a kiss on the cheek of Mrs. Babe Ruth, who was one of the first to congratulate the Yankee slugger after he hit his 60th home run of the season, Sept. 26th. Maris told the widow of the immortal "Babe" that he was glad he didn't break Babe Ruth's record in 154 games. 'This record is good enough for me,' Maris said.
