DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Connie Mack captured as he celebrates his 77th birthday early on December 21st, 1939. Mack has a smile on his face and is dressed in a suit. Two large trophies are on a table in front of him, along with a large sign made to look like a baseball that states, "Connie Mack 77th birthday," a baseball glove and ball and an elephant statue. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) (not shown) and states, "Connie Mack, grand old man of baseball is 77. Connie Mack, veteran member of baseball's old guard. Having completely recovered from his illness that struck him down in Boston last spring, celebrates his 77th birthday in his Philadelphia home, at which he expressed an impatience to be off with the team for training quarters on West Coast. Vigorous despite his years, many accomplishments and discouragements, Connie poses with trophies garnered by his many fine teams in his long baseball career. 12-21-39."
