DescriptionNew York Metropolitans Official Scorecard, 1884. The scorecard is from a St. Louis Browns vs. New York Metropolitans game on October 4, 1884 at the Polo Grounds in New York, New York. The game was won by St. Louis by a score of 5 to 4. The scorecard is printed with black ink and is filled out in pencil, along with the St. Louis lineup. The scorecard includes advertisements for Hirschkind & Co., and The Hannis Distilling Co. The front cover has a color image of a batter with his hat over his eyes and throwing away a baseball bat over his right shoulder. The caption at the bottom reads "Three strikes and out." The back cover has a color advertisement for Mesh Cigarettes, which shows a well-dressed man either offering his arm or bowing to a woman.
