Charles Comiskey Portrait photograph

Datebetween 1883 and 1889
DescriptionA sepia-toned portrait photograph of Charles Comiskey in uniform. Comiskey, shown from the chest up, wears a St. Louis Browns jersey and baseball cap. Turning his head to his left, Comiskey looks to a point in the distance and to the right of the camera. Based on the blank background and the flat lighting of the image, it was captured in a professional photography studio. Based on the specific design of the uniform worn by Comiskey, this image was captured between 1883, when St. Louis returned to wearing standard uniforms across the team, and 1889, his final year with the team. In 1882, his first year with St. Louis, players wore uniforms denoting their position rather than their team name. Below the photograph (not shown) is a calligraphic, "Fischer," and typed, in black ink, is the phrase, "COR. NINTH & FRANKLIN AVE., ST. LOUIS, MO.," the name and address of the photography studio that captured this image.
