Bio/Historical NotePittsburgh shortstop Honus Wagner stands at the ready, wielding the thick-handled bat of his era and wearing the Pirates' 1909 uniform, the year of their first World Series championship. Johannes Peter "Honus" Wagner played for the Louisville Colonels (1897-1899) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1900-1917). He also served as manager of the Pirates in 1917 and would go on to coach the team from 1933-1951. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936 as one of the "First Five" members.
