DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of, from left to right, Bubber Jonnard, Mel Ott and Dolf Luque. The gentlemen are captured standing on the sideline during a spring training practice observing the New York Giants team. Jonnard is holding a baseball bat in his right hand and is looking off towards the field with a small smile. Ott has a slight smile is pointing with his right hand and is wearing his baseball glove on his left. Luque has a stern expression on his face and is holding both his hands behind his back. There are two bags filled with baseballs on the ground in front of the gentlemen. Ott, Jonnard, and Luque are dressed in New York Giants road uniforms. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph (not shown) and states, "Mel Ott (center), New York Giant's manager who disclosed March 13, he's been reclassified as 1-A, watches the Giant's with coaches Clarence Jonnard (left), of Dallas, Texas, and Adolfo Luque, as they begin spring training at their camp in Lakewood, N.J., the same day. Ott doesn't know when the draft board will call him for his physical examination." Based on the handwritten date at the bottom of the caption, this photograph was taken on March 13, 1944.
