DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Charlie Gehringer, right, and Birdie Tebbetts captured as they stand against the railing of their cruise ship looking off into the distance. Both gentlemen are dressed in suits and have small smiles on their faces as they are about to depart on their getaway. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "George (Birdie) Tebbetts (left), catcher, and Charley Gehringer, infielder, for the Detroit Tigers, American League Pennant winners, as they sailed from New York for a vacation cruise on the S.S. America." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on October 19, 1940.
