DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller alongside his wife Virginia. Feller and his wife are shown from the waist up, both wearing suits. Feller stands facing the camera with the right side of his body turned slightly away, his right arm is around Virginia's waist. Virginia sits upon the railing of the ship, The Queen Elizabeth, that they are boarding. Virginia's right hand is by her side hanging onto the railing whereas her left arm is over Feller's shoulder. Both smile and look directly at the camera. The background has been whitewashed and is not original to the photo. The series of red marks are a system of notation that indicate where the photo will be cropped upon publication. Pasted on the reverse (not shown), typed in purple ink, is the caption that reads, "1011140 .NEW YORK BUREAU ACE INDIAN GOES ABROAD NEW YORK: CLEVELAND INDIANS' PITCHER BOB FELLER AND HIS WIFE, VIRGINIA, SMILE HAPPILY ABOARD THE QUEEN ELIZABETH, OCT. 15, PRIOR TO DEPARTING FOR THEIR FIRST EUROPEAN PLEASURE CRUISE. THE FELLERS WILL VISIT ENGLAND, THE NETHERLANDS, PARIS AND VENICE AND WILL BE GONE FOR SIX WEEKS. NY-A CREDIT (UNITED PRESS PHOTO) 10/15/52 (RP)." Above the caption on the reverse (not shown), stamped in black ink is the date "OCT 20 1952 USED" and "JUL 15 1958 1st EDITION," indicating the possible publication dates of this image.
