DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Charlie Gehringer captured seated holding a baseball in his two hands. Gehringer is looking down at the baseball with a serious expression on his face. He is dressed in a suit. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the front of the photograph and states, "Charley Gehringer, one time Detroit Tiger second baseman, and hall of fame great returns to the Detroit baseball club as general manager, who starting Oct. 1, 1951, will step into the position held by Billy Evans, who announced his retirement from the Detroit Tigers Team.Gehringer looks over a ball signed by Tigers members he played with and are still with the team." Based on the newspaper clipping this photograph was taken on July 30, 1951.
