Bio/Historical NoteThis Chicago White Sox shirt, worn by pitcher Urban "Red" Faber, is likely from the 1914 World Tour. That year, members from the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox traveled throughout the western United States and around the world playing exhibition games. They traveled to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, and Egypt, as well as several other countries. Faber was later inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1964. He pitched for the Chicago White Sox for his entire major league career (1914-1933) and contributed to their World Series championship against the Giants in 1917. Faber recorded 253 wins and 211 losses, with an ERA of 3.13. Faber was also one of the last legal spitballers in Major League Baseball. After spitballing was banned in 1920, he and sixteen other pitchers were granted special permission to keep the pitch in their arsenals.
