Lou Gehrig Final Season shirt

DescriptionShort-sleeved gray wool shirt, size 46, with seven gray buttons down the front placket and "New York" in navy blue felt appliques across the front chest. "Lou Gehrig" is embroidered in red at the interior back of the neck above the "Spalding" manufacturer label. There is a small sizing tag to the right of the manufacturer label. There is knit elastic underneath each sleeve. Proper left sleeve has a red, white and blue square patch, "1839-1939 Baseball Centennial." Reverse of the shirt has "4" in navy blue felt appliques in the center of the back. "39" is embroidered in red on the interior back of the shirt near the bottom center.

Bio/Historical NoteNew York Yankees road jersey belonging to Lou Gehrig in his final season, 1939. The patch on the left shoulder signifies the 100th birthday celebration of baseball in America.
