DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Bob Feller receiving an award from the Cleveland baseball writers. A beaming, well-dressed Feller in the center shows his award to his fellow teammate and catcher, Jim Hegan, while Rollie Hemsley, a previous recipient of looks on from the right. There is a caption (not shown) that states, "1/22: CLEVELAND, O.: Local sports writers honored Indians' pitcher Bob Feller as Cleveland's man of the year in baseball at the annual Ribs and Roast dinner here last night (1/21). The 33-year-old Iowan, who has spent more than half his life in the uniform of the Indians writing baseball history, was presented with a plaque and a spinet piano by the Cleveland chapter of the Baseball Writers Association. Feller (C) proudly displays the plaque to Jim Hegan (L), his present batterymate, and Rollie Hemsley (R), who was Feller's prewar receiver." An additional caption (also not shown) reads, "Cleveland's Man of the Hour: Bob Feller proudly shows battery mate Jim Hegan (left) plaque presented Indians' ace hurler by Cleveland baseball writers at dinner Monday night. Rollie Hemsley, who once received the award, watches at right." The photograph was either taken on January 21 or 22 in 1952.
