A caption below the image (not shown) states, "NXP7-4/18-SAN DIEGO: John Heydler, 86, former National League President, died 4/18 at a rest home here. Heydler (L) is shown with the late Honus Wagner in 1940. UNITED PRESS TELEPHOTO." While the caption states the photo was taken in 1940, it was probably taken in 1939 based off of Wagner's uniform.
