Nellie Fox and Joe DeMaestri Action photograph

Date1954 August 01
DescriptionA black-and-white action photograph of Nellie Fox and Joe DeMaestri. Fox is captured trying to make it safely to second base by sliding as a cloud of dust rises around him. DeMaestri is captured lunging in an attempt to beat Fox to the base. Fox is dressed in the Chicago White Sox home uniform. DeMaestri is dressed in the Philadelphia Athletics road uniform. The Chicago White Sox played the Philadelphia Athletics in a double-header on this day and swept both games. The typed image caption on the back of the photograph (not shown) states, "Nelson Fox (2), White Sox second base-man, is forced at second base in first inning of second game of double-header with Philadelphia Athletics in Chicago, Aug. 1, as Minnie Minoso hit to second baseman Spook Jacobs of Phila-delphia who threw to shortstop Joe DeMaestri. White Sox won second game, 12-1, after winning the opener, 6-5." Based on the caption, this photograph was probably taken on August 1, 1954.
