DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Nellie Fox, left, captured tagging Carroll Hardy, right, out at second base. Fox's left arm is wrapped over Hardy's back as Hardy attempts to make it to second base safely but is too late. Fox is dressed in a Chicago White Sox road uniform and Hardy is dressed in a Boston Red Sox home uniform. The caption on the front of the photograph (not shown) states, "Carroll Hardy (16) of the Boston Red Sox is forced out at 2d by Nellie Fox of Chicago, unassisted, in first inning of first game at Fenway Park today. Play began when Jackie Jensen tapped to Fox. Attempt to double Jensen was not in time." A caption on the back of the photograph states (also not shown), "Red Sox' Carroll Hardy (16) is put out by White Sox' Nellie Fox at second in first-inning force play in opener yesterday. Jackie Jensen, who had tapped to Fox, was safe at first on the play." Based on the caption, this photograph was taken on July 30, 1961.
