Mel Ott and Bill Terry photograph

Date1940 or 1941
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Mel Ott and Bill Terry captured standing arm in arm in the locker room. Ott is looking up at Terry with a tight lipped smile. Terry has his head turned and is smiling. Terry is holding his jersey in his left hand. Both Ott and Terry are dressed in New York Giants road uniforms. A newspaper clipping is affixed to the back of the photograph and states, "Mel Ott (left), was made playing manager by the New York Giants today, December 2, and Bill Terry (right) was placed in charge of farm operations with the title of general manager. Each was given a two-year contract. Terry, who has been manager of the Giants since the middle of the 1932 season, will continue to act in an advisory capacity. Ott never has played with any other major league team. He entered the majors with Giants in 1925, a 16-year-old school-boy catcher. 12/2/41." Based on the caption, the uniform, and Ott's time with the Giants, this photograph was taken in 1940 or 1941.
