DescriptionBlack textured plastic batting helmet without ear flaps. It appears to have had a "P" on the front center of helmet which has faded or been removed. There is an interior leather-wrapped sweatband. "9" is handwritten and underlined in faded black marker on the interior foam pad at the top crown.
Bio/Historical NoteHelmet worn by Bill Mazeroski of the Pittsburgh Pirates on October 13, 1960 during Game 7 of the World Series at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, PA, hitting the first home run ever to win a world championship in the last at-bat of the Series. Mazeroski's home run in the bottom of the 9th inning won Game 7 for the Pirates 10-9 and resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Pirates in the World Series. Mazeroski was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.
