Babe Ruth Throwing Candy from Roof of Gaiety Theatre photograph

Date1926 May 22
DescriptionA black-and-white photograph of Babe Ruth throwing an object from the Gaiety Theatre down to a crowd of people in the street. According to the Brooklyn Daily Star on May 22, 1926, Ruth helped actress Madge Kennedy promote the production "Love-in-a-Mist" by standing on top of the theater and throwing autographed baseball and candy bars to a crowd of people. An advertisement for "Love-in-a Mist with Sidney Blackmer and Tom Powers" can also be seen on the theatre. Ruth is on top of the roof and his back is towards the camera. He is bringing his arm back in preparation to throw and is wearing a Yankees uniform. There is a large crowd of people in the street, looking up at Ruth. There are six cars visible on the street in front of the building Ruth is on, and there are many more in the background.
