DescriptionWhite celluloid umpire indicator with a metal screw at the front top center and front bottom right. Top edge has two dials with scalloped edges. Front of the indicator has "Balls" and "Strikes" imprinted in black lettering beneath circular holes. Left hole currently is set at "3" and right hole currently is set at "0." There are patent markings imprinted along the front bottom left corner, "Pat'd May 28 1878," and bottom right corner, "Pat'd Oct 12, 1886." Manufacturer markings are imprinted in black on the reverse.
Bio/Historical NoteIn 1905, Amanda Clement began a six-year career umpiring for various semi-pro men's teams throughout the Midwest. By earning about $20 per game, Clement was able to put herself through college. She used this umpire indicator while calling her games.
