Eldon Breese American Association All-Star Game shirt

DescriptionSilk uniform shirt, size 42, with seven black buttons down the front placket and a blue applique star and "AA" on the proper left front chest. Torso of the shirt is yellow while the sleeves are red with yellow piping around edges. There is red piping around neck and down the front placket. Interior back of the neck has a manufacturer label with sizing information. Reverse of the shirt has a blue felt applique, "15."

Bio/Historical NoteSilk uniform shirt worn by Eldon Breese during the 1938 American Association All-Star Game on July 14, 1938 in Toledo. The game featured up-and-coming stars such as Ted Williams and Eddie Joost. The AA All-Stars wore red, white and blue uniforms made of a shiny satin weave, designed to dazzle the eye under the brilliance of electric lights. A number of major league teams, most notably the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Braves, experimented with satin uniforms for night games in the 1940s, but the style never caught on.
