Bio/Historical NoteBaseball thrown by Phil Niekro of the New York Yankees for the 3,000th strikeout of his career on July 4, 1984 versus the Texas Rangers at Arlington Stadium. Niekro became the ninth pitcher in Major League history to pass the 3,000th strikeout mark. The Yankees defeated the Rangers 5-0.
