Bio/Historical NoteBaseball used by Steve Carlton of the Philadelphia Phillies to record his 3,000th strikeout on April 29, 1981 against the Montreal Expos in the first inning. With this strikeout, Carlton became the sixth pitcher and first left-hander in major league history to reach the 3,000th-strikeout milestone. The Phillies defeated the Expos 6-2.
