John Franco September 11th Commemorative shirt

DescriptionWhite polyester shirt, size 46, with six clear buttons down the front placket and "Mets / 45" across the front in orange and blue appliques. There is an orange and blue "C" appliqued on the proper left front shoulder. There is blue piping around the sleeve ends, around the neckline and down either side of the front placket. Proper right sleeve has two small embroidered American flags with "9-11-01" embroidered in black between them. Proper left sleeve has a circular team patch with a blue embroidered manufacturer logo below. Interior proper left front shirttail has a manufacturer labels and two tags, "46" and "Set 1 2001." Reverse of the shirt has "Franco / 45" in orange and blue appliques with an American flag patch at the top back of the neck.

Bio/Historical NoteWhen baseball resumed nearly a week after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, all major league teams took the field in jerseys with American flags on the back. This jersey was worn by Mets pitcher and team captain John Franco, a native of Brooklyn.
