Art Pennington Autographed first baseman's mitt

Datecirca 1940-1950

DescriptionBrown leather left-handed first baseman's mitt with a thumb stall and a main stall connected by horizontal and vertical leather straps and laces. Outer perimeter edge of the stalls are lined with metal grommets and leather laces. Palm side has several stamps including "Deep Pocket / P1076 / Full Grain Cowhide / Professional Model / AHS." Back side has an opening above a wrist strap fastened with a knotted leather lace. "Art 'Superman' Pennington" is handwritten in black ink on the back side of the main stall and "Art" is handwritten in black ink across the wrist strap.

Bio/Historical NoteFirst baseman's mitt used by Art "Superman" Pennington, circa 1940-1950, as a standout player for the Chicago American Giants.
