Ken Hubbs Autographed glove

Date1962 September 02
DescriptionBrown leather left-handed fielder's glove with four finger stalls, a thumb stall and a piece of leather between the forefinger and thumb stalls as webbing. Leather laces line the top edge of the webbing and there are remnants of leather laces which would have once connected the finger stalls at the tips. Leather laces line the palm side pinky stall, thumb stall and heel edge. Palm side of the glove has several stamps, including "Form Pocket / Chuck Cottier Personal Model / E-Z Flex / 42-181 / Spalding." Back side of the glove has an opening at the base of the finger stalls with a wrist strap that fastens with a knotted leather lace. Wrist strap has a blue and red "Spalding" label. Back side of the thumb stall has a faint signature in black ink, "Ken Hubbs." Square leather webbing area has "Pat. No 2629096" imprinted into the leather on the back side. Back side of the pinky stall has "Pat. No 2,995,757."
Bio/Historical NoteWith this glove, Chicago's Ken Hubbs set a new major league record by playing in his 74th consecutive errorless game at second base. The streak eventually ran to 78 games and following the season he became the second straight Cubs player to win the Rookie of the Year Award. Just weeks before spring training of 1964, Hubbs died in an airplane accident.
