Houston Astros Space helmet

DescriptionWhite fiberglass helmet with blue painted trim across the top to simulate a glass face shield in an open position. Black rubber gaskets surround the face, ears and neck openings. Interior of the helmet is unpainted fiberglass with a black padded sweatband with lacing for size adjustment. Interior crown has white tape with "B. S." in black marker.

Bio/Historical NoteHouston's groundskeepers first wore space-themed outfits, including helmets such as this one, when the team moved into the Astrodome in 1965. On April 10, 2010, the club dusted off the helmets as it "turned back the clock" to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Astros nickname. Players often don retro uniforms, but Houston included its staff in the festivities, too.
